Visit of LASCAUX IV, the Parc du Thot et the rock shelters of Laugerie Basse : Plan your visit of LASCAUX international cave center in the language of your choice and discover the Parc du Thot and The rock shelters of Laugerie-Basse whenever you want.

[LASCAUX IV]
The International Center for Cave Art is located at the exit of the village at the bottom of the hill where the original cave of Lascaux is.
You will first be discovering the belvedere then the entire and unprecedented replica of the Lascaux cave in the company of a mediator for about 1 hour.
You will visit the various areas at your own pace thanks to a digital tablet :

- The atelier of Lascaux presenting 8 huge walls of the cave as well as digital and scenographic devices.
- The theatre of parietal art for cave painting in 3 acts presenting our relation to the discovery of decorated caves through centuries (19th to 21st c.)
- The film theatre proposes the virtual visit of the original cave and the presentation of other decorated caves.
- The gallery of imagination where one can explore the bounds between cave art and contemporary art thanks to a 90 screen-fitted wall.
- A temporary exhibition space presenting contemporary works of art

Please take a sweater, a part of the tour is outside and the temperature of the cave is around 13°C

The visit lasts approximatively 2h30 - Restaurant area on spot - Deposit for bags - Disabled access - Free car park - Baby changing tables - any exit is final

[PARC DU THOT]
Located in Thonac (9 km away from Lascaux), it is an interpretation center for prehistory with a museum area and an animal park. The place helps questioning Cro-Magnon’s life and the importance of his relationship with animals.
In the museum you will discover the replicas of the 5 pannels of the Nave of Lascaux as well as the “Scene of the Pit” and the many engravings thanks to a black light.

Then comes the augmented reality animation. Step back in the past to discover extinct species of animals.
A 3D film about climate from early prehistory to nowadays.

You will be able to challenge other visitors on knowledge about prehistory with a digital tablet.
Outside, have a walk in the animal park to meet species in relation with the ones painted on the walls of Lascaux : aurochs, deer, Tarpan and Prjewalski horses, bisons...

During school holidays, le Thot offers participative workshops for families : cave painting, excavation, flint cutting, hunting like a Cro-Magnon, making of jewels or of a grease lamp.

[LAUGERIE-BASSE ROCK SHELTERS]

A prehistoric archaeological site on the UNESCO World Heritage list

Just a short distance from the Grand Roc cave, in Les Eyzies de Tayac, the Laugerie Basse rock shelters
This prehistoric site dating from 15,000 BC to 10,000 BC, has served as a reference for pre-historians the world over. The many archaeological vestiges discovered here bear witness to unparalleled cultural and artistic activity in the region, and in Europe. The exceptional variety of the many decorated objects perfectly illustrates the quality of the drawings of prehistoric “modern” humans.
WHAT’S NEW
The family visit allowing you to discover all the richness of this site begins with a 3D video projection describing its main features (geology, archaeology, lifestyles and symbolic expression): an opportunity to get a closer view from every angle of the objects that make Laugerie Basse famous.
Then using a tablet (included in the tour), young and old are invited to carry out an amusing virtual archaeological dig to discover this site in enhanced reality just as it was thousands of years ago, with videos and audio comments.
